Christie Shin

Christie Shin is a co-founder of DSGN BY D. and a Full Professor of Creative Technology and Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology, SUNY.

She is a 2026 Google Higher Ed Faculty AI Fellow in the inaugural North America cohort and a founding member of the Figma Educator Advisory Board. With C.J. Yeh she wrote Empowering Design Education with AI: Curriculum Innovation in the Age of Creative Intelligence, published in August 2026.

Her work centers on what she calls the intellectual fingerprint: the accumulated shape of a designer's decisions, which is the one thing a model cannot produce. She built Cognitive-Process Assessment, a rubric that grades how a student thought rather than what they turned in, reverse-engineered from her own students' award-winning work and now running in a live course.
